Supplement to GAP Communications Documentation.
Please read this file before doing anything else!
In order to get you started as quickly as possible, do the
following :
Create the following directories :
\GAP
\GAP\MAIN
\GAP\GEN
\GAP\HELP
\GAP\QWKREP
Un-Zip GAPDEMO1.ZIP into the \GAP directory.
Un-Zip GAPDEMO2.ZIP into the \GAP directory.
Un-Zip MAIN.ZIP into the \GAP\MAIN directory.
Un-Zip GEN.ZIP into the \GAP\GEN directory.
Un-Zip HELP.ZIP into the \GAP\HELP directory.
Un-Zip QWKREP.ZIP into the \GAP\QWKREP directory.
Note that MAIN.ZIP, GEN.ZIP, and HELP.ZIP are included
in the same archive as this documentation.
The files are now in their correct locations.
Print out the GAP documentation as you will need it while
setting up your system. Print out GAPLICEN.TXT and set it
aside for now.
From your \GAP directory, type GAP. The configuration pro-
gram will automatically run. The documentation will help
you tailor GAP to your needs. After you have saved your
configuration options, you will be taken into the User
Editor so that you may set yourself up as Sysop.
It is IMPORTANT you understand that if you do NOT configure
your system first, before logging on to your BBS, you will
be forced, sooner or later, to re-start from scratch.
Keep in mind that your FileBase will be empty when you first
set up and configure your system. Because of this, you will
receive a "Could Not Open ISAM Database Files" error message
if you attempt to access the Files System (Command F F from
the Main Command Prompt) from within GAP. This message will
go away when you add a file to the FileBase (using the
FileBase Editor). If you have RBBS type ASCII file direc-
tories (or PCB DIRxx type directories) and these files are
properly formatted, the FileBase Editor will read them and
create your initial database for you.
Remember the GAP License Agreement that you set aside
earlier. Please fill it out and return it at your earliest
convenience. We want to help you enhance your BBS into one
of the best in the nation. We cannot do that if we do not
know who you are!
The disk based documentation is lengthy and can take a very
long time to print out. If you prefer, you may order the
printed manual. This will save you a great deal of time not
to mention paper! While the textual content of the disk
based manual is the same as the printed manual, the printed
version is easier to read and follow because of its layout
and use of artwork. Please refer to the enclosed License
Agreement for further information about ordering the printed
manual.
Let us know how you are doing! We are here to help you in
any way possible.
Special Note : The supplied GAP.BAT file does NOT set a de-
fault directory and drive. After configuring your system,
you should edit the file and place the following two lines
at the top of the file :
c: <<-- or whatever your default drive is
cd \gap <<-- or whatever your default dir is
The file was supplied without this information so that you
could configure your system based upon your hardware.
