  9.             Supplement to GAP Communications Documentation.

  11.             Please read this file before doing anything else!

  15.             In order  to get  you started as quickly as possible, do the
  16.             following :
  17.             
  18.               Create the following directories :
  19.             
  20.                 \GAP
  21.                 \GAP\MAIN
  22.                 \GAP\GEN
  23.                 \GAP\HELP
  24.                 \GAP\QWKREP
  25.             
  26.             
  27.               Un-Zip GAPDEMO1.ZIP into the \GAP        directory.
  28.               Un-Zip GAPDEMO2.ZIP into the \GAP        directory.
  29.               Un-Zip MAIN.ZIP     into the \GAP\MAIN   directory.
  30.               Un-Zip GEN.ZIP      into the \GAP\GEN    directory.
  31.               Un-Zip HELP.ZIP     into the \GAP\HELP   directory.
  32.               Un-Zip QWKREP.ZIP   into the \GAP\QWKREP directory.

  35.               Note that MAIN.ZIP,  GEN.ZIP,  and  HELP.ZIP  are included
  36.               in the same archive as this documentation.

  39.               The files are now in their correct locations.
  40.

  42.             Print out  the GAP  documentation as  you will need it while
  43.             setting up  your system.   Print out GAPLICEN.TXT and set it
  44.             aside for now.
  45.             
  46.             From your  \GAP directory, type GAP.  The configuration pro-
  47.             gram will  automatically run.   The  documentation will help
  48.             you tailor  GAP to  your needs.   After  you have saved your
  49.             configuration  options,  you  will  be  taken into  the User
  50.             Editor so that you may set yourself up as Sysop.
  51.             
  52.             It is  IMPORTANT you understand that if you do NOT configure
  53.             your system  first, before  logging on to your BBS, you will
  54.             be forced, sooner or later, to re-start from scratch.

  57.             Keep in mind that your FileBase will be empty when you first
  58.             set up and configure your system.  Because of this, you will
  59.             receive a "Could Not Open ISAM Database Files" error message
  60.             if you attempt to access the Files System  (Command F F from
  61.             the Main Command Prompt) from within GAP.  This message will
  62.             go away  when you  add a  file to  the FileBase  (using  the 
  63.             FileBase Editor).  If you have  RBBS type ASCII  file direc-
  64.             tories  (or PCB DIRxx type directories)  and these files are
  65.             properly formatted,  the FileBase Editor  will read them and
  66.             create your initial database for you.

  68.             Remember  the   GAP License Agreement  that  you  set  aside
  69.             earlier.   Please fill it out and return it at your earliest
  70.             convenience.   We want to help you enhance your BBS into one
  71.             of the  best in  the nation.  We cannot do that if we do not
  72.             know who you are!

  74.             The disk based  documentation is lengthy and can take a very
  75.             long time to  print out.  If you prefer,  you may  order the
  76.             printed manual.  This will save you a great deal of time not
  77.             to mention  paper!  While the  textual content  of the  disk
  78.             based manual is the same as the printed manual,  the printed
  79.             version is easier to  read and follow  because of its layout
  80.             and use  of artwork.  Please  refer to the  enclosed License
  81.             Agreement for further information about ordering the printed
  82.             manual.

  88.             Special Note : The supplied GAP.BAT file does  NOT set a de-
  89.             fault directory and drive.   After configuring  your system,
  90.             you should edit the file  and place the following  two lines
  91.             at the top of the file :

  94.                 cd \gap          <<-- or whatever your default dir is

  98.             could configure your system based upon your hardware.
